Joist girders serve as primary framing members with simple spans to support concentrated loads for a roof or floor system. K series bar joists are designed for use typically with lighter loads and are most common in roof design. Bar joist buildings are often times insulated on the underside of the roof deck to increase the building s energy efficiency. It is installed above the joists to serve as a base of support for either a roof or a floor.

K joists are used typically where shorter span conditions are required. Typically used in non residential construction steel joists and joist girders provide an economical system for supporting floors and roofs. Steel joists handle loads and span conditions that a tradition wood system cannot typically handle. Therefore steel bar joists or also known as open web steel joists for framing floors and roofs offer many advantages when compared to a wood truss or steel beam system.

For floors concrete is typically poured over the decking. Decking is made by forming and coating sheet steel.
